Lock ’em up in Lakeside

By KATHRYN BERMINGHAM

UNLOCKED cars were again the target of thieves in Pakenham last week, despite warnings from police for residents to lock their vehicles.
Valuables including tools, wallets and phones were stolen from 11 unlocked vehicles between 11pm and 6.30am on Friday night. All thefts occurred in the Lakeside estate in Pakenham.
A similar incident occurred in Beaconsfield the previous week, when items were stolen out of eight unlocked cars on the night of Monday 20 July.
Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Darron Hedge again encouraged people to ensure they locked their cars and removed valuables at night.
“These people are moving around the area, checking to see if car doors are open,” he said.
“If they’re locked, it’s likely that they will leave it alone and move on.”
Anyone with information on the thefts should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
