AGEING Lang Lang residents would be able to access quality aged care without leaving the area under plans for a new care centre.
Environment Minister Greg Hunt took time out from his 500-kilometre Walk for Autism on Monday to discuss plans for a new aged care facility with State Member for Bass Brian Paynter, members of the Lang Lang Aged Care Group and representatives from aged care provider Mayflower Homes.
The Lang Lang Aged Care Group has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Mayflower Homes for a centre to be located at the corner of Westernport Road and Salisbury Street in Lang Lang.
Minister Hunt said it was pleasing that the project was backed by such a passionate group of local residents.
“It is terrific to meet such a dedicated group of community members who are committed to improving aged care services for Lang Lang residents,” he said.
“With an ageing population these services are going to be in growing demand and we need to make sure we are building enough of these facilities to support our senior residents.”
Group chairman Rudy de Jong said the Lang Lang Aged Care group was pleased to be in partnership with a reputable aged care provider.
“Mayflower was selected as the successful tenderer due to its superior record of delivering residential aged care and retirement living options,” he said.
“There is plenty of work to be done but we are confident our new partnership with Mayflower along with overwhelming support from the community will see the project through to completion.”
MP for Bass Brian Paynter said the project would also provide new jobs in the Lang Lang community.
“Once completed, the project is expected to deliver 100 ongoing jobs in Lang Lang as well as providing a flow-on benefit to the local economy, which is great news for businesses.”
The aged population in Lang Lang is expected to double within the next 20 years.
