ONLY five per cent of Cardinia Shire’s vulnerable community members are listed on a police safety register designed to minimise their perception of fear in the community.
Of the 6500 vulnerable residents living in Cardinia Shire – which include the elderly and disabled – only 380 are registered with the Cardinia Community Safety Register, according to police who are urging similar community members to make themselves known.
The police and council co-ordinated register lodges the person’s details through a confidential computer system.
The person is then issued with an identification card used to access their details during an emergency – locally, interstate or overseas.
According to police, the register aids senior citizens or vulnerable members who are unduly fearful of crime which can have an adverse effect on their quality of life.
Registration is free. To lodge your details, visit Pakenham, Emerald, Bunyip, Kooweerup or Lang Lang police stations.
