THE bridge over Bunyip River is soon to be replaced with a stronger, reinforced concrete passageway as part of a project which is expected to close the area for several months.
On Monday 26 October, works will begin to replace Cora Lynn’s Eleven Mile Road Bridge over the river.
The existing bridge will be demolished and replaced with a reinforced concrete bridge to increase load carrying capacity and connectivity across Bunyip River.
The $700,000 project will include new bridge barriers, guard rails, signage and line-marking will complete the works.
The bridge will be closed for up to 12 weeks during construction.
Cardinia Shire Mayor Leticia Wilmot said the new bridge has the support of the local community which will benefit from the reconstruction.
“The bridge upgrade will improve access for heavy freight vehicles, emergency vehicles and buses which will help the wider community on a daily basis,” she said.
“Council consulted local farmers and the Victorian Farmers Federation in the planning stage of the project and they were strongly in support of the upgrade.”
Cardinia Shire Council will pay $350,000 towards the project and the Australian Government’s Department of Infrastructure and Development will donate $350,000.
