A LOCAL soccer player is in a critical condition after falling 30 metres on the weekend.
Phil Baes has been training with the senior team at Berwick Churches Soccer Club and was rock climbing at Hall’s Gap near the Grampians National Park on the afternoon of Sunday 7 February.
He fell onto a ledge before falling again and landing on a ledge further below, falling a total of 30 metres. In a rescue lasting several hours, Phil was winched from the location and taken to The Alfred hospital by Air Ambulance.
On Tuesday 9 February, Berwick Churches Soccer Club chaplain Andrew Russell confirmed that Phil remained in a “critical condition.”
“There’s a lot of damage, but we’re praying for him and giving him our full support and hoping that he will make a full recovery,” he said.
