A BEACONHILLS College student has received a prestigious Premier’s Award, achieving the top mark in Victoria for work in one of her subjects.
She wasn’t the only one – with a Haileybury student also taking out top marks in media studies.
Beaconhills student Yassmine Charafeddine scored 46 in Industry and Enterprise, one of the VCE subjects she completed in 2015.
The Governor of Victoria, Linda Dessau AM, presented Yassmine with her award at a ceremony on Thursday 28 April at Melbourne’s Palladium at Crown.
The subject involves spending time in work placement and Yassmine worked in the Human Resources Department with Yakult Australia in Dandenong South. She said the experience was invaluable.
She also praised her teacher Ryan Shave for his support during her studies.
“He was a very enthusiastic, friendly and approachable teacher,” she said.
Zara Liang, a Year 12 student, was presented with an award for achieving a perfect study score of 50 in Media, placing her in the top three of 5000 students.
Zara produced and directed her short film entitled The Cave that was inspired by the philosophical concept of Plato’s cave.
She explored the way in which people confuse shadows on the wall with the real world and, as a consequence, can be fearful of imagined dangers.
The Premier’s VCE Awards ceremony acknowledges the outstanding results of individual students and pays tribute to principals, teachers and families who play a valuable role in supporting and encouraging students during their VCE studies.
This year there were 312 awards presented to 289 students from 132 schools across Victoria, based on their outstanding 2014 and 2015 VCE study scores.
Yassmine is now studying a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Melbourne.
