Wearable art on parade

Yakkerboo Art Show will open with a wearable art parade.

YAKKERBOO Art Show’s 40th anniversary will launch this Friday 27 May.
Highlights of the opening night include a wearable art parade and live entertainment with arrangements on guitar and flute.
“The parade will be focused on the themes of fashion, fantasy and creative expression,“ Art Show president Jillian Ronald said.
“It will feature hats, jewellery and knitted garments, and vintage lace, steampunk and tribal themes will be explored.
“One of the highlights will be Mary Nugent’s hand-spun and hand-knitted natural wool fibres. She co-ordinates the colours and textures into a warm and functional garment. It is a very individual, sensory garment.”
A diverse range of more than 360 exhibits will be on display throughout the three-day Art Show including paintings in all mediums, sculptures, mosaics, prints, fabrics and collages.
All artworks will be available for purchase, with prices of select works reduced through sponsorship from local businesses.
The opening night begins at 7pm, with speeches starting at 8pm.
Awards for Best in Show, Highly Commended, Best Young Artist, Avant-Garde, Best Local Artist and People’s Choice will be announced at the opening, with $8450 in prize money up for grabs.
