Pakenham Secondary College is proud of its class of 2016, which has received the highest number of university place offers in recent times.
Year 12 co-ordinator Jo-Anne Duggan said she was “so proud” of the students’ improved ATAR scores.
“This has allowed them to expand their career choices,” Ms Duggan said.
Last year’s graduates had a diverse range of interests, Ms Duggan said, ranging from law to science to aviation to nursing and fashion, just to name a few.
One student, Jasmine Vermeer will study an honours degree in Global Studies and Law at Monash University.
Jasmine’s passion for law started in Year 11 after she picked legal studies as one of her VCE subjects.
She has a particular interest in human rights, immigration and international policy.
Jasmine said she didn’t want to be a “traditional” lawyer.
“I can see myself working in the UN (United Nations). It would be something I would enjoy doing,” she said.
She wants to help those at the centre of the media-reported global issues.
“Any difference I can make to them will be amazing. It’s something I care about,” Jasmine said.
Jasmine will shortly begin her university degree, with her first subjects focusing on international relations, security, terrorism and political violence.
She said she wouldn’t be where she was today without the support of Pakenham Secondary College’s teachers, and encouraged students completing VCE this year to “stick to what you are passionate about”.
“Stay motivated and focused,” Jasmine said.
The school wished Jasmine and the class of 2016 the best of luck in their future studies.
