Workers at Pakenham’s pre-cast concrete factory have farewelled the fruits of their labour for the first time, with concrete segments specially built for elevated rail loaded onto trucks bound for Murrumbeena Station.
In the coming weeks, two giant gantry cranes at Murrumbeena will start joining the segments together into larger spans, to be used to build the section of rail line between Hughesdale and Caulfield.
About 200 employees including local concreters, steel fixers, welders and plant operators are working at the Pakenham facility to construct the segments.
