New books, better computers and a broader range of programs are on the cards for Casey Cardinia libraries, thanks to almost $2.5 million in State Government funding.
Casey Cardinia Library Corporation’s (CCLC) CEO Chris Buckingham has welcomed the state’s $2,442,588 local contribution, saying it will go a long way to improving services across its libraries.
CCLC libraries are located in Pakenham, Emerald, Narre Warren, Cranbourne, Endeavour Hills, Doveton, Hampton Park, and the organisation also has a mobile library which services smaller towns including Nar Nar Goon and Kooweerup.
Its services include book and e-book loaning, internet and copying facilities, school holiday programs and event hosting, among others.
Mr Buckingham said the funds would assist in expanding its services to meet ever-changing needs along with updating current stock and equipment.
“We’re delighted. It will go towards the core services our libraries provide … and we’re really happy and fortunate to be continually supported by our councils and the State Government,” Mr Buckingham said.
CCLS’s funding is part of a $42.5 million pool allocated in the 2017/’18 State Budget for Victorian public libraries – a 2.5 per cent increase on last year’s funding.
Member for Eastern Victoria Region Daniel Mulino said libraries were a core community service.
“Our community relies on our public libraries, and that’s why this government is doing more than ever to help continue the many wonderful programs and services they provide,” Mr Mulino said.
