A man has been airlifted to hospital in a serious condition with lower body injuries after he was trapped under a large log.

More than 20 emergency services personnel responded to reports of a trapped man, believed to be in his 50s, at a property on Beaconsfield Upper just before 12.30pm on Sunday 5 April.

A CFA spokesperson said six vehicles from Beaconsfield Upper, Pakenham and Narre Warren were joined by a rescue crew from Pakenham and Emerald SES.

Ambulance Victoria and Victoria Police were also on scene.

Crews removed the tree and the scene was deemed under control within 20 minutes.

Emerald SES controller Ben Owen said the man was trapped down the back of the property, which proved difficult to access in the slippery and wet conditions.

“The person was trapped under a fairly large log, so obviously we couldn’t just pick it up and move it,” Mr Owen said.

“The CFA had started to make a cut on the log with a chainsaw and our crews assisted in stabilising the log to ensure it couldn’t move.”

Once the man was free, he was transported by Ute to a waiting air ambulance at the top of the property.

It’s understood the man had been doing maintenance work around the property but it remains unclear how or why the log fell on him.

The incident was one of about 50 calls over an incredibly busy weekend for the Emerald SES.
