IN ITS 104th year, the Parklea Pakenham and District Agriculture and Horticulture Show was another huge success for all involved.
A sunny day brought more than 6000 people out to watch, participate and soak up the fun and festive community atmosphere.
The dog high jump brought in the crowds along with some old country favourites in the gumboot throwing and paper planes competition, along with the the iron man and woman, the giant pumpkin competition and the dog showing event held on Sunday.
This year marked the second time the show has been located at P.B Ronald Reserve and it offered up a day short of nothing.
With ferret races, cultural entertainment, henna body art, rides, children’s farm yard, meccano and model trains a martial arts demonstration and an Irish dancing exhibition there was a lot to see and do on the day.
The poultry competition was bigger and better than ever, with more than 100 chooks, chicks and ducks clucking to be scored that an extra marquee is expected be added next year to cater for the popular fluffy fowl.
An Anzac commemorative project also took shape on the day as artists from SECAN painted a shipping container in the hot sun while being filmed by Michael and Josh Barth from the Pakenham Camera Club.
The time lapse film will show the container come to life in a sea of black, purple, orange, red and yellow for the year of the Anzac centenary.
The striking shipping container is used to house equipment used each year for the show.
With the highly popular weekend event wrapped up for 2015, the show is sure to come back bigger and brighter next year as we look forward to 2016’s third weekend in March.
