Police to patrol traffic lights – Concerned that someone will be killed at this intersection,

PAKENHAM police will be paying particular attention to drivers on the Healesville – Kooweerup Road after complaints by local business owners that many were running the red light.
Barry Brown from Barry Brown and Sons said his staff had narrowly avoided many collisions while they were leaving their Drovers Place business.
“Two of our guys were coming out of the Livestock Centre, where Elders are on the corner, already in the intersection when a guy with a trailer drove straight through the red light,” Mr Brown said.
“They had to do some fancy footwork to miss him.”
“It happens to us a lot,” he said and that it must happen to larger businesses more often.
“My main concern is our girls, if they put their nose (of their car) out and some clown speeds through, it could end up bad.
“If there is a prang, it could be serious.”
Cardinia Traffic Management Unit’s Leading Senior Constable Peter Henderson said police would be paying attention to drivers in the area now that the issue had come to their attention but added that drivers must abide by the road rules. “Red lights are there to be obeyed,” Sen Const Henderson said. “Drivers should stop at a red light and when it is safe to do so at an orange light.”
