Warriors feel the Heat

THE Warriors travelled to Mildura to play the undefeated Heat in two games over the weekend.
On Saturday night the Warriors were confident of inflicting Mildura’s first defeat, but the Heat proved too strong over the 40 minutes.
The Warriors worked hard all night but were unable to stop their American import Kevin Smith from dominating the scoreboard.
The Warriors were able to take the game right up to the undefeated Mildura team but were eventually defeated 81-69.
After the closest game of the Heat’s season, the Warriors were looking forward to levelling the ledger on Sunday when they met for their second game of the weekend.
Sunday saw a change of defence and early on the Warriors stayed right with Mildura, leading the scoreboard two minutes before half time.
At first the Heat looked shaky but they were able to steady themselves after some foul trouble for the Warriors and take the win 75 to 48.
The Warriors can take heart from the weekend as the final score in the second game did not reflect the closeness of the game.
Saturday’s game could have gone either way and the Warriors were unlucky not to put any points on the board after a hard-fought weekend.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:UNDER 20 GIRLS

The under-20 Warrior girls travelled to Melton on Friday night. In a change from recent weeks the girls started off quickly and jumped to a six-point lead early in the half.
Jacinta Hussey and Madelyn Mills were both rebounding well, giving guards Megan Tolley, Jordan Eagles and Erin Ludwick plenty of opportunities to score. The Warriors lead 29 to 20 at half time.
In the second half the Warriors dominated and controlled the game but could not convert. Melton’s three-point shots were keeping them in the game.
Katie Cornish, Emily Cooper and Julia Hockey contributed well in the second half and led to a Warriors victory 47 to 44.
Erin Ludwick (15), Madelyn Mills (10), Katie Cornish (7) and Emily Cooper (5) were the top scorers.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:UNDER 16 GIRLS

The top-age girls maintained their undefeated run with a narrow victory against Sandringham, 33 to 32. The bottom-age girls fought out a narrow loss to the undefeated Sherbrooke, 47 to 37

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:UNDER 14 GIRLS

The under-14 girls got back on the winning list defeating the undefeated McKinnon 35 to 33.
The girls got back to basics to limit McKinnon’s scoring opportunities early in the game and were able to hold on in the dying minutes following an injury to Chelsea Lowe.
Best players were Sam Neil, Ebony Wroe and Chelsea Lowe, but good contributions from Lauren Stevens and improvements from Shae Beard, Racheal Arldt and Kyra Esler got the girls over the line

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:UNDER 18 BOYS

Pakenham took on Keysborough in a high intensity game with Pakenham going out eventual winners 51 to 41. Pakenham managed to hold on to top spot with only percentage separating the top four teams in the competition.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:UNDER 16 BOYS

Going into round five the Warriors under-16 boys were two wins and two losses. With another game at home they faced Westernport and got off to a slow start with one team member sitting out ill. The boys found themselves down seven to nil within minutes of the start but managed to pull together and find their way.
After a three-pointer the Warriors hit the lead and were determined to say there. At half time they were leading 28 to 14 and with good team work supporting each other they held the lead for the balance of the game. The efforts of making sure the whole team help out in defence paid off to secure the win 36-25.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:UNDER 14 BOYS

After a morale-boosting win last week, the under-14 boys were looking to build on that confidence with an aim to win two in a row.
Playing against Cranbourne 2, the Warriors scored in the first five seconds through Lucas Handley, but they then must have been a little worried when the Cavaliers scored the next eight points in quick-fire time.
The team settled though and started playing some good team basketball with all players making contributions either in defence or attack.
Liam Malcolm was rebounding everything in defence and getting the ball out to either Matt D’Arcy (21 points for the game), Clarrie Dipnall (10) and Lucas (8).
Liam was playing well down both ends with a highlight being his very own fast break and lay-up which earned him points in his total of six points.
With a six-point lead going into the second half, the warriors lifted their intensity.
Excellent defensive games by Mitchell Allen and Lauchlan Birtchnell, as well as Isaac Munns and Liam Tyrell, who were dominant on the rebounds and allowing Matt and Clarie to score at will.
Another highlight was the consistency of Clarie’s jump shots where he finished with some terrific baskets. An excellent second victory in a row by the improving Warriors unit. Final score: Pakenham 59 d Cranbourne 43.

Pakenham was able to consolidate their position in the five with a good win over Knox, 50 to 38.
