No apologies for tickets

CARDINIA’S top cop will make no apologies in his attempt to reduce road trauma in Pakenham and surrounds.
Inspector Wayne Viney says his staff will continue to issue fines for speeding, reckless driving and using a mobile telephone – anything they can do stop drivers from getting hurt or killed.
Insp Viney said police had seen a super reduction in serious injuries on the road – a whopping 33 per cent.
“I have to attribute this to the fantastic job of our staff who are enforcing the road rules,” he said.
“I don’t apologise for that, we will continue to intercept speeding, drink driving and unlicensed drivers – it all makes a difference.”
Insp Viney said he and his team would continue to increase enforcement in Cardinia and would not apologise for tickets either.
“It’s our strategy to reduce road trauma, and so far it has made a difference.”
Along with the reduction of road trauma, Insp Viney said Cardinia had also seen a six per cent reduction in crime and a five per cent reduction in theft from cars.
“We’ve really made some great steps towards reducing criminal damage in the area, with the help from council,” he said.
“And we are finding that the thefts from motor vehicles are now only opportune thefts, when people don’t lock their cars, so people need to make sure they do that.”
