CLAIMS of backstabbing mixed with feelings of hope have Cardinia Shire residents divided over our new prime minister.
Julia Gillard was named Prime Minister of Australia last week following a leadership spill that ousted Kevin Rudd.
The Gazette asked our readers what they thought and while the feedback was mixed, many said they would wait and see what happens before they made any judgement, but an overwhelming number said the way she became leader did not sit well.
“Seriously, the fact that she’s female will not help or change our country,” Raylene Cooper said.
“It will be interesting to see the direction she takes,” Jennifer Beasley said.
John Anderson said he believed Australia’s first female Prime Minister would be an excellent leader and sadly for Kevin Rudd, the message was not resonating with the electorate and changes needed to be made.
Jayne Van der Zalm said she was excited.
“I believe she will make a hard-hitting PM and I think at this point I would vote for her.”
But Rob Roberts said “any leader who gets there by stabbing their boss in the back does not deserve a vote”.
Angela Reid agreed.
“Love him or hate him, vote for him or not, what happened to Mr Rudd is not the way the leader of our country should be treated, a disgrace to all Australians,” she said.
It seems only time will tell when the nation decides whether Ms Gillard will make a good leader when an election is called later in the year.
