OBITUARY
Harold Bumpstead

HAVING lived in the Pakenham/Officer district for all but two-and-a-half years of his life, Harold Bumpstead held an enormous history of his town when he passed away on 13 July.
Harold was born in Pakenham on 24 November 1928, the fourth child of Harold and Lena Bumpstead.
Harold loved education and enjoyed his days at the Army Road School.
After school he worked with his father, farming, wood carting, contract fencing and helped run his parents farm.
He also worked on Brown’s orchard, timber mills on the corner of Ahern Road, with PMG as a telegram deliverer as well as the Berwick Council, Frankston, Spring Works and eventually spending almost 30 years with what is now Telstra.
Harold married the love of his life, Jean Cleland on June 17 1950.
They moved to Corowa to share farm for almost three years before returning to Seaford and then Officer where they raised their four children.
He was a quiet and modest man, who loved his wife, children and his garden.
Harold lost his wife Jean in June 2000 and missed her until the day he died.
He still enjoyed his grandchildren and celebrated the birth of his youngest great granddaughter and the birthday of his little one-year-old great granddaughter just days before his death.
Harold lived a long, contented life, one his family and friends are proud to have been a part of.
He is survived by his brother Owen, sister Florena, his four children, Dianne, Graeme, Helen and Neil, 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
