RACHEL Bennetts is one step closer to a career in business following a whirlwind trip to an annual finance academy in Sydney earlier this month.
The 16-year-old Emerald College student won the chance to attend the week-long course at Macquarie University along with 49 other year 11 students from across the country. She was thrilled to be given the opportunity.
The program was run by finance company, UBS and aimed to give students a practical understanding of global financial markets and highlight a wide range of related career opportunities.
UBS chief executive Mathew Grounds said the company was delighted with the interest shown by students.
“The last 24 months have been a turbulent period for financial markets and we feel that this is an excellent backdrop and learning experience for students to gain a better understanding of the rewards and challenges of working in financial services and how the markets how markets operate,” he said.
Rachel said she the week was a great learning curve.
But despite giving her a bigger insight into the business world, Rachel still is unsure what she will do when school finishes.
She is currently ‘stuck’ somewhere between business and law.
“Possibly I can do something that incorporates them both,” Rachel said.
Rachel said the week also gave her a great insight in what university life was like.
“It was really good, I would love to do it all again,” she said.
