Fillip for sport

BEACONSFIELD’S Holm Park sporting precinct will get another $500,000 boost under a re-elected Labor Government, Gembrook MP Tammy Lobato announced this week.
The funding would bring the Labor Government’s total investment in the project to $2 million and will be part of a new Facilities for the Future program to boost community sporting facilities.
“Victorians love their sport and that’s why we’re investing heavily in sporting infrastructure to ensure we cement our status as the sporting capital of the world,” Ms Lobato said.
“We know the benefit sport provides to our communities and by improving the quality of sporting facilities we’re encouraging even more people to get healthy and active.
“Local clubs in Beaconsfield will be the big winners in this fantastic new precinct, which will be home to three new ovals, a dedicated netball court, three dual tennis and netball courts, four cricket nets, two pavilions, a skate park, walking tracks and other play areas.
The $112 million Facilities for the Future program will make available grants to redevelop community sporting clubrooms and facilities and support the construction of large-scale multipurpose facilities in communities.
“Local sporting clubs are the heart and soul of our communities,” Ms Lobato said.
Sport and Recreation Minister James Merlino said the boost was a continuation of the Brumby Labor Government’s record investment in elite and grassroots sporting infrastructure.” We want our local sporting clubs to continue to thrive,” Mr Merlino said.
“The Brumby Labor Government has already invested more than $200 million for over 2000 community sport projects through the successful Community Facilities Funding Program.”
