Mustang runs free

A LONG-time Ford fan had to look to America to make his car dreams came true.
Pakenham resident Jim Lee imported his white 1966 Ford Mustang from the USA five years ago, after keeping an eye out for years.
“I was always a Ford fan,” Jim said.
“A Mustang is a classic look.”
He said that even people who didn’t know much about cars, knew when they were looking at a Mustang.
But the car is not for looking at, it’s for driving.
“I just love being in the car rather than just looking at it,” Jim said.
Even Jim’s 10-year-old son, Mason, jumps in the car at every opportunity.
“He loves riding in the car.”
So it is no surprise the car is driven as often as possible on weekends – rain, hail or shine.
The Mustang features in car shows nearly every weekend and at the Mustang Owners Club in 2007, it won the president’s choice award.
Jim works for R & E Auto Parts and it was a customer who helped him bring his dream car to his garage.
“A customer imports cars and his wife saw it and knew I was interested,” he said.
“And it was in very good condition.”
Jim has done very little to the car since it was imported, deciding to keep it all original, including the anti-smog kit.
“I like the originality,” he said.
“I want to keep it like it was when it was new.”
