Rain reigns supreme, again

FRUSTRATION continues to reign for West Gippsland’s senior cricketers, with yet another round falling by the wayside because of the weather.
In all but five of the round six matches, a promising first day’s play petered out into a draw on a dreary spring afternoon.
In Premier Division, Kooweerup, which had sealed first innings points on day one, did its darndest to secure an outright result, and had PUT languishing at 7/51 when the rain came on Saturday.
John Bright was the chief destroyer, taking 5/15 as the Demons pressed for full points.
Similarly, Lang Lang had already sealed Cardinia’s fate in Sub-District Division, before taking a further two wickets on Saturday to have the Bulls at 5/73 in their second dig.
Meanwhile, Officer and Merinda Park both registered wins – in C and E Grades respectively – on the back of day one leads over Clyde and Lang Lang.
The only real action came in the unders, where most matches got underway on either Friday afternoon or Saturday morning.
Lang Lang youngster Tom Dwyer provided a rare highlight by snaring a hat-trick on his way to figures of 5/16 in his under-13 side’s clash with Officer Bullants.
Fingers will be crossed for fine weather this weekend, with one-day matches scheduled to be played on both Saturday and Sunday.
Sunday’s games will be catch-up fixtures for round one, which was also abandoned.
