Looking Back

THE death of Beatles singer John Lennon was a shock to the world, and served as a nostalgic reminder for Narre Warren photographer Holga, who had a photo taken with Lennon on the set of Lennon’s first film, ‘How I Won the War’.
Brenda Chisholm, Pakenham Swimming Club member, won the Victorian Open Synchronised Swimming Championship for the third year in a row. She was also placed first in the Open Duet with Tracey Dunlop.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz: 20 years to 1990:

Cake stalls, discos and an Easter bonnet parade gave members of the Harkaway Primary Junior Red Cross group over $350. The group worked hard to raise the money, which went to the Red Cross youth department to assist children in need.
Grade five student Anthony Sottosanti recei-ved a scholarship worth $500 from Catholic Church Insurances representative, Mr Bradley Gotch. Anthony was a student at St Patrick’s school in Pakenham.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz: 10 years to 2000:

St Margaret’s year 12 student Virginia Smith topped the region with an ENTER score of 99.75 after VCE results were released. She received a perfect study score of 50 in both art and English. Virginia chose to study advertising at RMIT.
Teenagers from Berwick, Pakenham, Warragul, Kooweerup and everywhere in between danced up a storm at the 20th anniversary of the Narre Warren Berwick Bluelight Disco. The event was held at the Cranbourne racecourse and around 2000 teenagers attended.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz: Five years to 2005:

Dedicated U2 fans lined up for hours to get tickets to the U2 concert. Kathy Cullen and daughter Ciara waited for over seven hours, and another couple were among 30 diehard fans that lined up for 38 hours.
DOCTOR Tickle and his fellow clown friends from The Humour Foundation dropped into the Ron Andrews Nursing Home to provide some laughs for the residents. ‘Laughter is the best medicine,’ is their motto and they were known for working with children and the elderly.
