Late signing seals team

MOST teams would have put away the signing pen three weeks into the season, but Pakenham Warriors has saved their best for last, signing Big V legend Jeff Reid.
Reid, from Pakenham, has 132 Big V games to his name at the Latrobe City Energy and most recently at the Belgrave-based Sherbrooke Suns, before he made the switch to Pakenham as their sixth major signing since last season.
Another perimeter man of great success, Reid has hit 390 long-range buckets in the Big V at 34 per cent to help guide the Warriors’ young shooting-guards Jake Heyen and Jed Bentley in the craft.
Pakenham coach Ryan Rogers said Reid’s signing was a boon for the Warriors’ program, already bolstered by the signings of starters Jay Ferriere, Jay Richardson and captain James Topp.
“This is a massive signing for us as it gives us a guy who I consider in the competition’s elite,” Rogers said.”He’s a consummate professional who has one of the deadliest perimeter games seen in the BIG V.
“When you add his 10 years’ experience in State Championship Men, great attitude and he’s a local Pakenham guy, I think he will have a major impact on the likes of Jake (Heyen) and Jed (Bentley) in their development.”
Reid will take to the court this weekend as the Warriors face the Western Port Steelers at Somerville Basketball Stadium on Saturday.
Pakenham will aim to improve their 1-1 record, putting the Warriors fourth on the Big V Division 2 Men’s ladder.
