POLICE raced to a Gardenia Street home on Monday at 11am following reports of a gunman barricaded inside a home.

A Victoria Police spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday that a 32-year-old man had been taken into custody earlier in the day following the 18-hour siege.
“We have been informed that it was resolved at 5.15am,” the spokesperson said.
“A 32-year-old man was taken into custody.
“He has since been taken to hospital for psychiatric treatment, no charges have been laid.”
Police teams from the air wing, the Critical Incident Response Team, Special Operations Group, CIU, canine units, highway patrol and various uniformed police were called to the quiet street.
About 7pm on Monday night, between 40 and 50 residents gathered in the street near Ahern Road to watch the siege unfold.

One resident walking his dog told the Gazette that he had heard the man was at the back of his property with a gun.
Other residents from neighbouring streets walked up to see why there were police cars, ambulance officers and a helicopter above.
“We heard about it on Facebook,” one resident said.
Insp Wallace said residents in neighbouring houses were evacuated for their own safety and were co-operative and appreciative of the efforts of the police.
He said he knew blocking off roads could be an inconvenience, but it was for the safety of the community.
