BERWICK has a new weapon in its Dandenong District Cricket Association (DDCA) Turf 1 arsenal.
Already feasting on Dingley in his first outing for Berwick, scoring 91 in a DDCA Twenty20 last month, former Sri Lankan test cricketer Thilan Samaraweera, 37, has decided to join the club in all forms of the game and will don the whites this weekend for his inaugural DDCA two-dayer.
Samaraweera has over 6000 international runs for Sri Lanka and nearly 20,000 more at first class and domestic level around the world, giving Berwick a prime top-order batsman.
His addition to the Bears will help sure up the batting which has suffered this year outside of a stellar partnership of 286 between Bathiya Perera (183) and Chris Davies (117) against Coomoora last month.
Samaraweera and his brother-in-law Bathiya Perera are running Summer Cricket Clinics at Arch Brown Reserve throughout January, with morning and afternoon sessions available for the three-day classes. The classes are available for cricketers from all clubs for $75.
