First chance to look back

A MEMORABLE event celebrating the past was held at St Patrick’s Primary School last month.
On Saturday 30 August, current principal Mick O’Brien, Fr Bernard Mahony, former Presentation Sisters, teachers, students, and some parents from the years 1970 to 1980 attended the school’s first reunion at the Parish Centre.
The largest group in attendance were from the grade six class of 1973.
Also in attendance was Anthony Russo who left in 1970 and is responsible for many of the sculptors and artwork around the Pakenham school.
Mr O’Brien lead the group on a tour of the school to highlight some of the more recent changes and show where historic buildings had been retained and restored to modern use.
He said the day was a great success.
“There was a lot of reminiscing done and plenty of laughter at those little things that seemed important at the time,” he said.
Former student Bernadette Van Den Acker said everyone was pleased with the event and were keen to have another reunion.
“There is now a Facebook group for past students and teachers called St Patrick’s Primary School Alumni,” she said.
“It is hoped that modern technology will help spread knowledge of the event for the next formal reunion in two years’ time.”
