A NEW state-of-the-art tanker was presented to the Bayles CFA on the weekend as part of its 70th birthday celebrations on the weekend.
On Saturday 6 September, members of the CFA, dignitaries and local residents attended the special event that featured several fun and free activities including face painting, a fire truck jumping castle, a display of vintage fire trucks, a CFA community education trailer and a Fire Truck poster exhibition, featuring works drawn by local children.
Bass MP Ken Smith officially handed over the new $335,000 tanker to Bayles CFA as part of the celebrations.
Representing the Minister for Police and Emergency Services and Bushfire Response Kim Wells, Mr Smith said the new truck would be a great resource for the community and enhance emergency response capabilities for the region.
“The Hino 4 by 4 crew cab has a spray deluge system and drop down fire protection curtains to maximise crew safety,” Mr Smith said.
“The truck is equipped to cross rough terrain safely, which will provide greater safety for the community and improve the firefighting capabilities of the brigade. The $335,000 tanker was funded by the Napthine Government and is housed in the station’s upgraded truck bay.”
Mr Smith also presented a National Emergency Medal to Bayles Fire Brigade member Cyril Downer for his service during the 2009 Black Saturday fires.
“The Napthine Government is proud of the vital work performed by CFA, whose members help protect 3.3 million Victorians, and more than one million homes and properties across the state,” Mr Smith said.
