THERE were 50 great reasons why Doveton goal-shooter/goal-attack Rahni Samason was the only viable choice to take out the Casey Cardinia A-Grade netball best-on-court medal.
Samason, 16, was in sensational shooting form as she converted the fine midfield work of Aila Pera, Linda Hunt and Ebony Mumford.
The Doves’ dynamo bagged all 50 goals in the grand final as Doveton claimed a 50-43 victory over perennial powerhouse Beaconsfield.
Samason was thrilled to reel in countless high passes and keep Beaconsfield’s defenders on their toes.
“It felt so exhilarating,” Samason said.
“I was just running on adrenaline basically and it was amazing.”
For most people the goals are just rings on poles, however Samason visualises her shots a little abstractly, but it’s hard to argue with her results.
“I was just trying to stay as calm as possible and just sink it in,” Samason said.
“I always think of the ball as like chocolate and… trying to get it into my mouth.”
A former Doveton junior player, Samason was asked by Doveton Netball Club president Amanda Dean and coach Natu Faanana to come across to Robinson Reserve and was thrilled to get back.
“I used to play for the under-13s in 2008 and just came back this year,” Samason said.
“Amanda and Natu and all the girls asked if I’d like to come back to Doveton and it was a no-brainer and I knew I would love to.”
