LEAVING on a high note, Keysborough Netball Club bowed out of Casey Cardinia with a premiership flag.
Keysborough’s final-term effort proved too much for Berwick to handle as the Burra emerged triumphant to claim the 38-31 B-Grade victory.
The match was goal-for-goal throughout most of the clash as the Wickers and Burra struggled to pierce the opponent’s defence. The defensive efforts of coach Samantha Downie and goalkeeper Sarah Vella kept the Wickers’ attack under wraps. Downie excelled as she swooped on countless interceptions and deflections to keep Berwick on the back foot.
At the opposite end, Chloe Plumb had the Midas touch in the goaler’s arc – sinking 12 goals in the final term to finish the match with 32 of Keysborough’s 38 goals.
“Very thrilled with the win,” Downie said.
“I think we just kept control and we wanted it more.
“I think our pressure – was causing the turnovers and the goalers just converted the goals and it was amazing.
The first Mislicki victory of the day came from C-Grade superstar centre Sarah Mislicki as her Beacy Eagles defeated Berwick in a nail-biting four-goal victory. From the front, Mislicki battled against Berwick’s Chloe Moss to feed Eagles’ goalers Courtney Favey and Kelly Ceceve with plenty of passes. Mislicki was awarded best on court for her efforts, setting the stage for her husband Daniel to emulate her feat in the senior football final.
Beaconsfield had all the success at midday as the Beacy D Graders edged out Cranbourne 23-22. In a show-stopping effort, Claire Van Lambaart was named best on court.
The junior ranks were the exclusive bastion of the Magpies and Eagles as Narre Warren claimed four while Beaconsfield took possession of a pair of 2014 netball pennants.
Splitting her time between Catani A Grade and ROC, state representative Hinemoa Collier battled to keep ROC in its under-17 red grand final against Narre Warren, but the Magpies proved too powerful taking the 45-35 win. Valiantly toiling against the Magpies’ attack – ROC’s Ashleigh Barnett was awarded the best-on-court medal.
In the under-17 White grand final, Beaconsfield emerged triumphant 26-17 over Narre Warren as Magpie Jamie Collard took the medal.
Pakenham suffered the woe of double-defeated in the under-15 grand finals, with neither Lions’ side able to roar over the top of Narre Warren. The Magpies’ Red team defeated the Lions 31-18 with Caitlyn Stephens bringing the medal back to Fox Road while the White Magpies soared over Pakenham 24-14. Narre’s Ashleigh Mashado flew highest as she earned the best-on-court medal.
In the under-13s, Doveton was left to lick its wounds for two teams as the Red Doves lost to Narre Warren 14-26, despite the best efforts of Doveton best-on-court medallist Melissa Webster, and the White Doves were knocked off by Beaconsfield 9-26 as the Eagles’ Mackenzie Brice claimed the best-on-court honours.
