Truck powers down Pakenham’s Main Street

By BEN CAMERON

A TRUCK clipping a powerline on the corner of John and James streets in Pakenham is believed to have caused a major power outage this afternoon.
Some 1600 “customers” were without power, with around half restored within an hour, according to an AusNet spokesperson.
“A majority of the other half were back with power in the last half an hour,” she said.
“A handful of customers, 24, can expect power back by six or seven o’clock tonight.”
The truck struck the powerline about 12.20pm.
Gazette readers took to the Facebook page to report of power being out at Pakenham Marketplace and shops along Main Street, while others reported of a power pole exploding.
