A DEDICATED and generous young community leader has been awarded for his service.
Berwick Grammar School student Brady Graham received an award “in recognition of valued contribution to the community” at the inaugural La Trobe Community Awards.
He, along with 26 other students and long-term volunteers were celebrated at the awards ceremony held at Kambrya School on 25 October.
Brady volunteers at a local childcare centre and helped out at a camp for children with special needs.
He is also involved in the local human powered vehicle team, is a water runner for Berwick Football Club, and regularly assists with the Lionesses’ barbecues.
On top of this he also plays tennis for Berwick Tennis Club, attends many school functions and services as well as attending the school’s community service at Waverley industries, helping disabled people pack boxes which he says was a rewarding experience.
He was nominated by Darragh Howard, his Year 10 co-ordinator, and said he was surprised by his award.
“I couldn’t believe that he had nominated me. It was completely unexpected, but I was very honoured and happy to receive the award,” he said.
Mr Howard said that Brady was inspiring the younger generation to get involved with volunteering.
He plans to continue his volunteering with the Lioness club, citing his grandmother as the motivation for his work.
Brady is a boy with big goals. He hopes to be involved in sports in some way, whether it be sports administration or management.
