CARDINIA’S rock ‘n’ roll mayor Graeme Moore has left the building.
And he did it in style, with an end of term Mayor’s Hatter Ball at the Cardinia Cultural Centre on Friday night that looks like raising over $6000 for the Officer Specialist School.
The mayor ended the night on stage himself rocking out tunes with old mate Brian Cook, a member of their teenage band Razzberry Jungle.
“It was just fantastic,” Cr Moore said of the night.
“We were a bit worried early when we only had 55 booked in the Friday before, but the community really rallied behind it.
“I’m not sure whether it was to support me, support the event, or support the charity – but that combination is good enough for me. And I couldn’t think of a better cause.”
The crowd of 150 was also entertained by Pakenham-based musical duo Brendan Cooney and Sabrina Schlasser and then the shire’s own John Veloso, from the MyBus program, belted out a few songs as well.
Deputy mayor Brett Owen paid tribute to his colleague, as did MC Brian Paynter.
Cr Owen said Cr Moore had given 100 per cent and gone 100 miles per hour as mayor.
“It was an honour being your deputy, although you didn’t really use me much, because of a decision you made very early into the term that you would do as much as you could yourself.”
Cr Moore welcomed his Cardinia colleagues, councillors from neighbouring municipalities, staff and parents from the specialist school and members of his family.
He singled out his wife Sue for special praise for supporting him through what he described as a “fantastic year”.
