Choosy buyers undermine yard

There were approximately 700 export and 630 young cattle penned at VLE Pakenham, representing a decrease of 270 head week-on-week.
There was a full field of buyers operating selectively in a cheaper market with fewer quality calves in the veal and the steers eased three cents as the heifers slipped 12 cents per kilogram.
Yearling steers suited to the trade sold firm while the heifers eased three cents for the heavy weights and eight cents per kilogram for the medium weights.
Feeder steers eased two cents per kilogram for most.
Grown steers slipped five cents with quality an issue while the bullocks held firm.
Heavy weight grown heifers eased three cents per kilogram.
Heavy weight Friesian and crossbred manufacturing steers slipped five cents to nine cents per kilogram.
Most vealers sold from 180 cents to 217 cents per kilogram.
Yearling trade steers made between 180 cents and 220 cents per kilogram and yearling heifers to the trade sold between 157 cents and 192 cents per kilogram.
Feeder steers made from 163 cents to 197 cents per kilogram.
Grown steers sold from 161 cents to 184 cents per kilogram.
Bullocks made between 164 cents and 191 cents per kilogram.
Heavy weight grown heifers showing good finish sold between 159 cents and 178 cents per kilogram.
Heavy weight Friesian manufacturing steers made from 152 cents to 157 cents with the crossbred portion from 155 cents to 172 cents per kilogram.
