Council discusses residents’ fears

CARDINIA Shire Council does not have a position on a proposed quarry in North Bunyip due to a lack of details from building manufacturing company Hanson.
Council manager Planning Policy and Projects Tracey Parker said council officers had met with residents about their concerns, but did not have an official position yet.
“Council does not have any position in relation to this proposal as no application has been lodged,” she said.
“Council has previously written to the Minister for Planning advising that an Environmental Effects Statement should be required to ensure all environment, social, economic and planning matters are given due consideration.
“Council officers have met with a residents’ representative regarding the proposed Bunyip quarry.
“As a result, council has also agreed to a second meeting with members of local walking and bird watching groups who use Mount Cannibal Reserve, to discuss how the group can collect information on native flora and fauna in the area.
“No other meeting has been arranged at this stage.”
