A WOMAN who created an artistic legacy in Emerald almost 30 years ago returned to the site last week to view its recent update.
Local artist Jenny Saulwick, who designed the six historically-significant murals in Emerald Lake Park several decades ago, came to the unveiling ceremony which provided the first sight of the new interpretive signage.
Friends of Emerald Lake Park revealed the signage, which is designed to help visitors understand the Dandenong Ranges’ rich history, to an eager group on Wednesday 10 December.
The group’s president Sheila Hampson said the informative signage builds on the mural’s artistic presence which captures events from white settlement up until the early 1920s.
“Three of the murals depict the time before settlement, the gold rush and logging,” she said.
The other half provide insight into the life of a well-known Emerald nurse, the history of Puffing Billy and a portrait of writers who used the Hills as a creative inspiration.
The unveiling was attended by a range of Emerald Lake Park users including Ms Saulwick who has remained a Hills resident three decades after creating the murals.
