Theft leaves firies on edge

THE theft of about $600 worth of goods – including important safety gear – from the Nar Nar Goon fire station last week has put local volunteers on edge.
Thieves damaged a door to a storage container at the rear of the station after breaking in with a crowbar last Wednesday night, second lieutenant Justin Seddon said.
Items stolen included a whippersnipper purchased from community funds less than 12 months ago, jerry cans and safety harnesses.
Lt Seddon said the theft had local volunteers concerned.
“It’s put our volunteers on edge,” he said.
“It’s put them in a concerning position, they don’t know who might be snooping around in the dark. What we do is stressful enough.”
He believed the theft occurred between 5pm Wednesday and about 10.30am the following day.
It’s the second time the container has been targeted by thieves.
“We had an attempted burglary 12 months ago,” he said.
Narre Warren CIU is investigating.
