A HORSE that got stuck down an embankment in Pakenham Upper while searching for water was rescued by Pakenham State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers last week.
Eleven-year-old Oscar was found stuck on a 30 degree angle in a muddy dam about 7pm on Tuesday 10 February by his distressed owner.
The horse, unable to move, was eventually freed by his owner and SES members who scooped the sludge and mud away from his hooves before “using manpower” to set him free.
Pakenham SES Media Liaison Shayne Honey said the rescue was a joint effort between SES and Oscar’s owner.
“With the combined assistance of SES members and Oscar’s owners, Oscar was able to get enough momentum to free himself from the sludge and out of the dam,” he said.
Oscar was checked by a vet and found to be well despite the thirst-driven ordeal.
