Racing’s new dawn

A NEW era is dawning for Pakenham racing.
The stunning new facility at Tynong is taking shape, with last Thursday’s first grass gallop on the 2400-metre track taking place before the sun had a chance to rise.
Former race jockey, now track work rider, and local-icon, Ian Virtue, was out early last week.
First he brought a local hopeful back to the undercover training stalls, before partnering the Michael Phillips trained Egyptian Command (inside) in the first grass gallop alongside the Paul Kramer trained Cavallo Reigns, with Ben Allen aboard. The new $70 million facility will be open for business next month, with the first meeting scheduled for Thursday, 26 March. 134906 Picture: STEWART CHAMBERS
