Field pedals up a division

EVEN after taking the step up a division, bottom age under-17 cyclist Alana Field continues to excel at the Cycling Australia Junior Track National Championships.
Field, 14, from Berwick, had to battle the older brigade in the under-17 women’s division, but she managed to hold her own in the top junior age group.
Her greatest success came in the midst of Alice Culling, Sarah Gigante and Georgia O’Rourke as the Victorian quartet knocked off New South Wales to take the team pursuit title.
Keeping up the family tradition of strong sprinting, Field took the silver medal in the JW17 behind Queensland’s Lara Tucker in a 13-second thriller and backed it up with a second individual silver in the time trial, edged out by Western Australia’s Jade Haines.
She also finished fourth in the scratch race to round out the successful week, as Victoria lifted the Ray Godkin Shield with 93 points, ahead of New South Wales (63) and Queensland (46).
