MOST people get involved in the World’s Greatest Shave to raise funds for blood cancer research.
But Pakenham gym whiz Kylie Di Carlo is targeting another unhealthy aspect of life: judgemental perspectives.
“I haven’t directly had a member of my family suffer from cancer but I’ve been around close friends that have lost their close ones and it’s affected me,” she said.
“I want to really give something back to people who need some hope in their lives.
“Raising money is one major goal for doing this, but also the fight against judgment based on appearances.”
Her father suffered a stroke and has yet to fully recover.
“I see him go about his life with the fear of people judging him for being different and it hurts me to see that people treat others with an illness, a disability, differently, when they can’t help it.”
Kylie will shave her head at the Relay For Life event in Berwick.
Also shaving for a cause at the relay on 14 March, is 19-year-old Ella Noone, whose mum passed away 18 years ago.
“It was tough for my dad, with three kids aged, 9, 5 and 18 months,” she said.
“My dad and my sister Clare have done World’s Greatest Shave, so I thought it was my turn.”
