HARKAWAY Primary School’s involvement in Australia’s Harmony Day was celebrated with a colour run on Friday 20 March.
Harmony Day, held on Saturday 21 March celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity, with events held throughout Victoria.
Principal at Harkaway Primary School, Wendy O’Brien said the day was about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.
“The colour run really brings a sense of connectedness to the whole school, the event highlights that even though we are all different we get along so well,” Ms O’Brien said.
The colourful occasion was held on the same day as National Day of Action against Bullying, and took off at 12.30pm with students running around the oval in white T-shirts.
“The house captains have mixed food dye with water in spray bottles and the children are sprayed with all the house colours – red, blue, green and yellow,” Ms O’Brien said.
The whole school event has been celebrated at Harkaway Primary School for many years and this is the second time the colour run has marked the occasion.
“Last year the kids had so much fun, that we just had to make this a regular event on the school calendar.” “They’ve been talking about last year’s event and this year’s house captains have been so thrilled to have the opportunity to plan and lead the colour run,” she said.
