Bambridge keeps it simple

DROUIN GOLF

PROMISING Junior, Lachie Bambridge, was a runaway winner in the Monthly Medal and A Grade when he parred the course for a nett 62.
Bambridge was two-under at the turn having birdied both par five’s – he didn’t have a two-putt green until the ninth. On the back nine, two birdie chances just slid by the hole – he didn’t record a bogey until the 15th.
There was nothing lucky about his round. It was built on the simple idea of keeping the ball on the fairway and, when putting, aiming for the centre of the hole and watching it go in. It was a marvellous performance.
The B-Grade winner was Ray Haley with a very respectable 68, while Michael Sullivan put aside the misery of being a Carlton supporter to win C Grade with 67. Taking into account his Club Championship win, he now has played four rounds of stroke for two shots under his handicap.
Balls down the line went to; Stan Gajdobranski 70, Shane Mckiernan 70, Steve Henning 71, John Capp 72, Brett Dessent 72, Robert Batten 73, Marcus Foote 73 and Graeme Alexander 73. When Shane Pallant eagled the sixth, it was his second for the year. Nearest the pins were; F. Roknic 5th, Paul Ziebell 8th, George Renye 10th, and Michael Sullivan 14th and pro pin.
This Saturday is the Anthony Bambridge 4BBB stableford for men and stableford for women. Entries are now being taken for the Annual Tournament.
MIDWEEK
GARFIELD players certainly enjoy their visits to Drouin.
Of the five holes-in-one scored in the last sixth month, two have been by Garfield players. On Wednesday, Trevor Male became the latest when he aced the fifth. He joins 54 others to have achieved this feat on this hole, but it didn’t finish there.
Trevor went on to win A Grade with 45, while Noel Brereton returned to the winner’s circle to take out B Grade with 42, and Brian Maunder showed the benefits of overseas travel to win C Grade with 39.
Balls down the line went to; David Fergusson 40, Mick Hanley 39, Angus McArthur, 39, Mike Waring 39, Ray Morgan 38, Bill McGinness 38, Barry Beechey 37. Nearest the pins were; Trevor Male 5th, Jim McCormack 8th, Shane Dwyer 10th, and Jackson Caddy 14th and pro pin.
