WITH Little Athletics summer season winding down before the muddy terrains of cross country take full effect, Pakenham Little Athletics Centre thought to fit to ask some of their senior athletes about their experiences in the sport. This week’s article is written by Abigail Nimmo, under-16 athlete, who is stunned by her improvement since joining the club.
My experience at Pakenham Little Athletics has been amazing. I started three years ago as an under-13 when I moved to Australia from New Zealand. The Pakenham Little Athletics club welcomed me and helped me settle into Australia a lot quicker.
As an athlete, PLAC has guided me to improve my skills and abilities with athletics. I am not entirely a Usain Bolt runner, but I have achieved some terrific results at Regions and State that I couldn’t have without the club.
Even though I have finished my time with athletics as an athlete I will be helping around the club and cheering for my sister on the sidelines. PLAC is such a welcoming and friendly club that I don’t want to entirely leave, just yet.
Pakenham Little Athletics Club has made me realise that even if you aren’t an amazing athlete, you can still go and have fun with the lovely people down there. The kids that were in my age group were so helpful and fun to be around; we always looked out for one another. Now, I think this is what little athletics is all about.
I have met some wonderful people and made friends for life over the years. I cannot thank Pakenham Little Athletics Club enough for making my years in little athletics so enjoyable.
