THE disappointing cancellation of Yakkerboo was a distant memory for the children at Pakenham Kindergarten last week, where a mini was held.
Staff organised the event for last Thursday and Friday, allowing children the opportunity to parade in the costumes that had been worked so hard on.
In an effort to recreate the atmosphere of Yakkerboo, the day also included face painting, balloon animals, a cake stall, a circus tent and acrobatics. Children paraded throughout the grounds, throwing lollies to their cheering parents.
Teacher Jamie Wursthorn said it was pleasing that students had the opportunity to parade, despite the initial event being cancelled.
“The kids absolutely loved it, they were so excited about wearing their costumes in the parade,” she said.
“We received amazing support from a number of parents who stepped in to help make the event such a success.”
Pakenham kinder has been involved in the event for several years. Children sang happy birthday to Mr Yakkerboo.
Ms Wursthorn said the kinder was looking forward to next year.
“It’s always a highlight. We’re definitely intending to participate next year, and hoping for better weather.”
Meanwhile, local youngsters with an eye for colour were celebrated for their creativity last week.
Winners of the hotly contested Yakkerboo colouring competition were recently announced, and winners were presented with their prizes in Pakenham last Thursday.
The lucky winners, which were judged in three age categories, were presented with vouchers from The Chocolate Shop and O’Brien’s Real Estate.
Prizes were awarded by Lynn from the Great Australian Bakehouse, who again has displayed wininng entries on her shop window.
