THE worlds of art and fashion will collide at this year’s Yakkerboo Art show.
‘Wearable art’ will form a new category at the annual event, giving artists the opportunity to design, assemble and wear their own creations.
Art show president Jillian Ronald said the exhibition aimed to inspire the imagination of entrants.
“We have introduced the new special category ‘Wearable Art’ at this year’s Yakkerboo Art Show to show how creative and dynamic art can be,” she said.
“We love that art can be found everywhere. It should be fun, diverse and part of our everyday lives.”
Opening night will feature a wearable art parade and showcase artist creations. The creative aspect of the art needs to be the work of the entrant, but artists may enter remodelled garments or create wearable items made from recyclables.
Winners in different categories will also be announced on the night, with a total of $7750 in prize-money to be distributed through 25 prizes.
Ms Ronald said the event would celebrate creativity.
“Not only do we hope that artists will let their creativity shine, but I want to encourage everyone to get into the swing of it and wear their most artistic outfits to opening night.
“This is the place to wear that amazing piece you have been hanging onto looking for an opportunity to display.”
The show will be held at the Pakenham Hall, corner of John and Henry streets. Live entertainment will be provided by Wildwood.
Entry to the show is open to anyone. If you would like to enter the wearable art parade, display or an artwork of any medium, entries close on 15 May. Entry forms are available from yakkerboo.org.au or by email at artshow@yakkerboo.org.au
