Good deal of skill

THE Berwick Bridge Club again achieved outstanding results in the week up to 8 May.
On Friday 1 May, 11 tables were played. First in the N/S category were George Shand and Patricia Beazley with 60.54 per cent, second were Heather Saunders and Dianne Nicol on 58.63 per cent and third were Ruth Warren and Frank Knipping finishing with 56.67 per cent. In the E/W division, Bert Romeijn and Julie Day took first on 68.71 per cent. In second were Sandra Spencer and Patrick Morgan on 60.34 per cent and Ron Hubbard and Alan Saultry in third with 56.99 per cent.
Monday 4 May saw five tables played. Michael Mandeltort and George Ashby topped the night with 62.96 per cent, Vaishali Kedar and Heather Saunders came second with 59.25 per cent and Henry Xia and John Watson came in third with 57.87 per cent.
Seven tables played on Tuesday 5 May. First in the N/S category were Dorothy Scanlan and Bruce Greenland on 59.52 per cent, second were Terry Sheafe and Heather Saunders on 56.54 per cent. In the E/W category, Michael Mandeltort and Robert Morley were first on 61.90 per cent and Jim Dow and Jan Smith were second with 58.92 per cent.
Eleven tables at Bridge for Brain were played on Wednesday 6 May. First in the N/S division were Maggie Callander and Shirley Collins 66.89 per cent, second were David Yioffa and David Happell on 66.66 per cent and third were Faye Rowlands and Patricia Beazley on 59.95 per cent. In the E/W category, Bert Romeijn and Julie Day came first with 65.50 per cent, Dianne Nicol and Steven Thorne came second with 60.64 per cent and Jim Dow and Jan Smith were third.
