DROUIN kept Moe goalless in the second half at Community Oval in Sinclair Street on Saturday, en route to a strong 35-point win – 14.19 (103) to 10.8 (68).
The visitors started promisingly, booting five goals in the opening term and taking a three-point lead into the first change.
But they could only muster three scoring shots in the second as the Hawks swooped – turning the quarter-time deficit into a handy 14-point lead at the main break.
And in the second half Drouin’s defence tightened even further – conceding just 4.4, including just one behind in the final term.
Cameron Hall, Jackson Kos (three goals), Luke Duffy and player-coach Bob McCallum were all outstanding for Drouin, while Ben Hughes also booted three majors.
Adrian Burgiel booted three for the Lions, while Peter Ainsworth and Charlie Rieniets were amongst their best.
While the Hawks are currently sixth on the super-tight Gippsland League ladder with three wins from their first five games, Warragul is still yet to break through for its first victory of 2015.
The Gulls, who have had a string of away games over recent rounds, managed just two majors in a low-scoring encounter against Wonthaggi Power – going down 9.13 (67) to 2.5 (17).
Brad Scalzo and big man Chris Carey continued their strong run of recent form for Warragul, while Jake Orlicki and Ben Drew kicked a goal apiece.
The Gulls will play their first home game in four weeks this Saturday when they host Leongatha at Western Park, while Drouin travels to Morwell to take on the Tigers.
