Poppies are a winner with Anzacs

The winning entry created by the children of Nar Nar Goon Kindergarten.

A VERY excited group of Nar Nar Goon pre-schoolers recently welcomed a special visitor to the kindergarten.
On Thursday 14 May Gary Elliot from Pakenham RSL presented the children at Nar Nar Goon Kindergarten with a trophy awarding them first prize in the Anzac Centenary Art Show.
The group had created a piece entitled Walking in the Footsteps of the Anzacs by painting a green backdrop and pasting on shredded paper to represent grass before adding poppies using patty pans, pipe cleaners and paint.
Co-educator at the kindergarten Denise Mason said that it was an opportunity for the children to learn about the significance of Anzac Day.
“The theme was celebrating 100 years of Anzacs.
“An explanation and further discussion of what Anzac meant was had with the children prior to and during making their artwork,” she said.
“They were all so excited to be awarded first place in their category when told by (teacher) Mrs Linda.”
The competition was open to all primary schools and kindergartens within the shire, with two prizes being awarded.
Entries were displayed at the Pakenham Hall and Ms Mason said that several of the children had visited the exhibition to view their entry.
