A PLETHORA of outstanding entries made for a hard day’s work judging the 39th annual Yakkerboo Art Show over the weekend.
The three-day event included displays and workshops as well as a fashion parade.
Art Show president Jillian Ronald said visitors to the show were blown away by the quality of the work.
“This year’s show was even better than last year’s, if that’s possible,” she said.
“The standard of the art was incredible and so diverse.”
This year’s judges were John Irving of Beaconhills College and Sarah Dugdale, co-ordinator of Arts and Culture at the City of Greater Dandenong.
The theme of this year’s show was Wearable Art, and the category saw many creative and innovative entries.
Lindy Holmes took home first prize in the Wearable Art Display with a piece entitled Hollywood Revisited, featuring a combination of body pain and a white evening dress in what Jillian described as “the perfect example of art meets fashion”.
The Local Artist Award was won by Anne Caufield with her stunning depiction of evening light at Corinella and Harris Smith won the Pakenham Opportunity Shop Gold Medal for Best Artwork with his painting Beyond the Dunes.
Judge John Irving said Harris had mastered the skill of oil painting.
“All of Harris’s works were excellent and used oil paint successfully in depicting landscapes,” Mr Irving said.
“Beyond the Dunes is a traditional seascape painting, atmospheric, a gentle beach scene where walkers stroll along the beach enjoying summer skies.”
Jillian took the opportunity to thank all those who devoted their time and energy to ensuring the show was such a success.
