STUDENTS will be spending their lunchtimes sailing the high seas after a pirate ship anchored at Beaconhills.
The ‘Toomuc Treasure’ recently moored at the Pakenham campus and has since been the site of a number of daring expeditions.
Head of Junior School Peter Hockey said the ship allowed students the opportunity for development through play.
“The pirate ship has learning benefits for children in that it fosters imaginative play, encourages socialisation and improves physical skills – especially for the younger children – such as climbing, co-ordination and balance.”
The 10-metre long ship is equipped with everything a crew could need, including a treasure chest, barrel, anchor, wheel and a plank, where rogue pirates may be forced to walk into a sandpit sea.
Year 3 Pirate Raine summed up her time on the vessel in one word: “Awesome!”
The Toomuc Treasure will be taking visitors at Beaconhills’ College open morning, held at both the Pakenham and Berwick Campuses on 18 August. For more information, contact enrol@beaconhills.vic.edu.au.
